Visiting Largs

No trip to this seafront town is complete with a visit to the Pencil Monument. This impressive monument was constructed in 1912 to commemorate the victory of the Scots over the Vikings in the Battle of Largs of 1263. In fact, history buffs will love the amount of Viking history in this part of the world. There are annual Viking festivals and exciting battle reenactments. Not too far from the town lies the Kelburn Castle and grounds, a 13th century castle which has been decorated by Brazilian graffiti artists!

Largs is a great base from which to explore everything that Scotland has to offer and is located only an hour’s drive from Edinburgh and even closer to Glasgow. For those looking for some outdoor exercise with stunning views, try the hike to Haylie Brae Viewpoint for fantastic views of the town and Cumbrae Island.

There are plenty of shops and restaurants to visit in Largs, with many options including vegan and vegetarian. Largs is an ideal base for exploring the west coast of Scotland.
