#1 Rialto Square Theatre

The seventh largest chandelier in the world, it hangs in the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet, Illinois. It is called ‘The Duchess’ and took almost two years to be made. It was completed in 1920 at a cost of $1,500,000. Calculating how much this would equate in today’s money, it would be more than $17,000,000. #2 Dolmabahce Palace, Turkey

Another colossal chandelier resides in the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul. It was made during the end of the 19th century and weighs a staggering 4.5 tons. The chandelier was commissioned by Queen Victoria and gifted to the Ottoman Empire. It holds 750 lamps and made from Bohemian crystal. The palace also contains many other examples of Bohemian and Baccarat chandeliers and even the staircase is made out of crystal.

#3 Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

One of the largest chandeliers in the world is found in the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and made from 600,000 Swarovski crystals. It’s 8m wide, 46 feet high and weighs a hefty 8.5 tons. On the chandelier you’ll also find gold-plated metalwork. It hangs 14m long and is the comparable size of a five-storey building! The chandelier requires ladders and platforms for maintenance purposes and contains 1,200 halogen lamps.

#4 Knokke Casino

This casino in Belgium boasts a super-size lighting fixture too. With a diameter of 8m, height of 6m and a weight of 6 tons, this beauty contains 2,700 lamps and 22,000 crystal pieces. Made from Venetian crystal, it’s a sight that must be enough to distract you from your gambling!

#5 Sheikh Zayed Mosque

In this mosque in Abu Dhabi, you’ll find a copper chandelier that’s been gold-plated at a cost of $10,000,000. This is the biggest mosque in the United Arab Emirates, with 82 domes in 7 varying sizes and one of the main religious sites in the country, visited by over 41,000 people.

#6 U.S Capitol Building

The chandelier that hangs in the U.S Capitol Building has been in there since 1965. It was purchased from a wrecking company for a puny $1,500. It weighs 2,000 pounds, contains 14,500 crystals and is said to be worth much more than $1,500 now.

#7 Reflective Flow

The world’s largest chandelier is incredibly stunning and uses colour-changing LED lights. It is displayed in an atrium between office buildings in Doha, Qatar. It is made up of 2,300 handmade optical crystals, 55,000 colour changing LED lights and linked together to form a 38.5m long chain that weighs an incredible 20 tons! Designed by Scottish artist Beau McClellan, the whole project took 2 years to bring to fruition but only a month to put together by 11 people.
