Moving: do it yourself or not, is in third place in the ranking of the most stressful events, after mourning and separation. Challenging and tiring, it can tarnish the pleasure of moving to a new home, perhaps bigger and more beautiful. Organizing the transfer of an entire house (or company) requires first of all planning and selection.
How to make the DIY move: useful and practical advice
Before moving on to the to-do list, here is one thing not to do: procrastinate, postponed at the last moment. This is the mistake that we almost all commit, the real cause of moving stress, which inevitably grows when we realize that the moment has arrived and we have not done anything yet. Schedule and organize the move by yourself
The winning card for a perfect move is programming. After deciding on the date, start immediately to get busy starting with the inventory. Select furniture and objects: those to wear, give, throw, sell. What is not needed is eliminated. Needless to make air change to objects that no longer use, broken, useless. Fewer things to pack and more order in the new home.
Measure the furniture, plan the new accommodation, get rid of those you will not need. Seeing that the spaces are slowly emptied, it helps to keep the concentration on the path and will avoid the usual confusion.
Make sure you have a friend or relative available: to move heavy furniture, to remove the larger furniture.
They are absolutely necessary: cardboard boxes as if it were raining, newspapers and old magazines, bubble wrap, adhesive tape and a large felt-tip pen. The most fragile objects should be wrapped in newspaper or in the practical bubble wrap, the plastic with bubbles. It costs little and is in sheets or rolls. Mirrors and delicate furniture should be covered with sheets or blankets.
Pack first what you need less
Before packing, cleaning and dusting the objects: once you have finished moving, you will thank you for having already done so. Books, furnishings, photos, out-of-season clothes and shoes, carpets. Pack anything that you do not use on a daily basis. If the new destination is close and ready, moving it by itself allows you to transfer the boxes little by little. If this is not possible, choose the room in which to deposit the boxes. Keep order (and calm).
You have to know what each box contains, without opening and closing continuously. With a thick felt-tip pen, write the room where it came from and the items it contains in each package. For example kitchen – dishes and glasses, bedroom – blankets and sheets etc.
Write it on each side, not above (if you stack them you will not see them), in order to always have the content clear. Upon arrival, divide the boxes into the various places of destination, without heaping them all together where it happens.
Remove the furniture
Starting always from the less necessary, disassemble the bulkiest furniture and furnishings. With pieces of paper tape numbering elements and marking the position: right, left, above, below, to make reassembly easier. For complicated parts, take a picture before disassembling them.
The small parts such as screws or hooks must be kept in a transparent bag and applied to the piece of furniture with adhesive tape. The best way to not lose or confuse them. Cover the glass doors with sheets or blankets and secure them with two turns of adhesive tape. Read also: http://line-art.org/6-rules-follow-order-kitchen/
